Maheno Farm Irrigation Dam |
|
The dam site is located northwest of Maheno in Northern Otago. The dam is located on a small ephemeral watercourse and has been designed as an earth embankment that is being built across the downstream end of a grassed pastoral catchment of 120 hectares in area. The crest of the dam is at an approximate height of 20 metres above the creek at the downstream toe of the dam embankment. The reservoir will store approximately 1.39 million m3 of water. The dam is being constructed using onsite soil materials with imported processed filter and drain materials. Earthwork volumes for the dam construction will approximately comprise 200,000m3 cut to fill, 12,000m3 cut to waste, and 71,000m2 of topsoil stripping. |

Pegasus Town |
Hick Bros Civil Have been the head civil contractor on the large scale residential land development Pegasus Town located at Woodend just north of Christchurch. Since beginning on stage 7 Hick bros have successfully completed stages 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11 to tight time frames and budgets.
Stage 8 is the developments heart encompassing the town’s main street and servicing the lake frontage areas for future Pavilion Restaurant, Yacht Club and heated swim beach. Stage 8 was completed in November 2009 within the very tight construction programme. There are extensive paved areas including large format Timaru Bluestone and small format concrete pavers. Coloured concrete kerbing had to be laid to fine tolerances to meet paver modules and a curved concrete block retaining wall was incorporated into Motu Quay leading to the Lake Suspension Bridge. This meant large sections of large format paving had to be radial cut to fit the curve and laid on changing grades.
Works completed as part of Pegasus Main Street:
• Over 4,000 lineal metres of coloured Kerb
• Over 1,500 sq.metres of concrete footpath
• Over 15,000 sq.metres of Asphaltic concrete paving
• 2,500 lineal metres of drainage pipes to 900 diameter and 2.5m deep
• 3,500 Lineal metres of combined service trenching in including water reticulation
• Over 6,000 sq. metres of large and small format paving
• 2 coloured paved pedestrian crossings
Pegasus Stage 6, 7, 9, and 11.
Stages 6,7,9 and 11 were residential subdivisions completed in March 2010 with stages 6 and 9 being completed conjointly with stage 8 Main Street also under construction. Pegasus Town’s design uses a swale stormwater treatment system where all stormwater enters road side swales and is discharged to ground giving the town a unique look and layout compared to conventional subdivisions using piped stormwater reticulation. This also presented a few challenging aspects with regards construction and programming of construction activites. Other Construction challenges included a tight time frame and budget, multiple stages under construction at once, high ground water coupled with sand soils and extensive drainage, deep pump stations and large storage tanks, and working with the weather to prevent dust nuisance and possible prosecution of the client in North Canterbury’s Nor-West ravaged environment.
All works have been completed to a high standard and met the client’s high expectations in this high end residential development
Works completed as part of Pegasus stages 6,7,9 and 11:
• 4 sanitary sewer pump stations up to 9m deep and large storage tanks to 150000 litres
• 40,000 cubic metres of earthworks/shaping lots
• 15,700 lineal metres of Kerb and channel
• 60,000 sq.metres of Asphaltic concrete paving
• 16,100 sq. metres of concrete footpath
• 18,200 lineal meters of aqua cell and swales
• 24,300 lineal metres of drainage to 900 diameter and 4 metres deep
• 17,000 lineal metres of common services including water reticulation
• 35,200 lineal metres of irrigation supply pipe
• 880 Tree pits
• 4 waste water pump stations and storage tanks
• 5 neighbourhood reserves including pergolas, banquet table, BBQ’s, drinking fountains and seating
• Scores of hectares of topsoiling, hydroseeding and grassing
